Interview

From an interview with a retired member of the music press.

Hammond: Over the years, their sound became more refined but their personalities became more fucked up. Just before the band broke up the bassist had complete dream synchronization; his dreams became the same as his days. He dreamed the day in advance, so when he lived it he knew just what to do.

Sometimes his precognition would malfunction and he would dream the day that had just happened and the next day he was forced to function on his own with no guide. This was disastrous; wrong notes all over the place, speeding up, losing track of chord changes.

In his dreams there were dead people all over. I never met a more disturbed man in my life. He didn't choose to be successful. There was no choice involved because he was dependent on the dreams. The only line of employment for someone like that is an entertainer.

A lot of people think that he was completely insane by the time he wrote the novel. I was with him for most of its writing, and I disagree. He was never more sane.

Interviewer: Mr. Huntington had quit music by then?
