The machinebook's sturdy exterior has aged well. Fastened to its base are four old rubber feet. A seam runs down its center, from middle to back. It looks like the two halves could open up. Written on the lower-right-hand corner in fluid script is the word "Papergate".
Its face is positioned in front of the two panels and is slanted slightly upwards for ease of use. A set of tarnished silver keys is set on the right. One group is marked with digits zero through nine. The remaining button is larger and is tucked in the corner. It is engraved with a picture of a door.
